Fixed Plant is the description given to items of equipment/appliances, which are usually connected to an isolator or fused spur.

These are not part of the fixed installation, nor are they portable electrical appliances. They are however covered by the ‘code of practice for in service inspection and testing of electrical equipment’ and as such, require testing at suitable intervals. 230 Volt appliances can be connected temporarily to an appliance tester for this purpose, but 400 Volt appliances are usually restricted to earth continuity checks at various points, plus an insulation resistance test.
