Portable appliance and fixed electrical equipment testing is an important part of any health and safety policy.

What is Portable appliance Testing (PAT testing)?
Portable appliance testing is a series of visual and electrical tests for electrical equipment connected to the mains supply via a removed plug.

The big picture:
The ‘code of practice for in service inspection and testing of electrical equipment’ was introduced to enable companies & organisations to comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations (EAWR) 1989.  The EAWR requires electrical systems to be maintained in a condition so as not to cause danger.

Other legislation of specific relevance to electrical maintenance:
The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974,
The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999,
The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and
The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.

Fixed electrical equipment also comes under the ‘code of practice for in service inspection and testing of electrical equipment’

Our services are used by:
The self-employed, small businesses, large corporate companies, landlords and those who invite the public onto their premises.

Testing:
Each appliance is comprehensively tested to meet requirements of the IEE code of practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.  We use the latest computerised PAT testing equipment and are able to test all portable appliances or fixed appliances in your company including -  IT equipment, 110 V equipment. A fully qualified electrical engineer will carry out the inspection and testing.

Microwave Leakage Detection:
Unlike some other companies when we PAT test microwave ovens as part of the test we check that the microwave energy leakage is within the limits set in BS 5175.

Why is PAT testing important?
Each year about 1000 accidents at work involving electricity are reported to the health and safety executive. About 15 of those are fatal.

Those using the electricity may not be the only ones at risk:
Portable electrical appliances are a major cause of fires both in the home and at work.  Over 2,500 people are killed or injured as a result of electrical fires every year!

The health & Safety Executive state that 25% of all reportable electrical accidents involve portable appliances.
